Regional WA to shine in upcoming feature films ‘Whale Shark Jack’ and ‘Drone Racers’
Family features Whale Shark Jack and Drone Racers are set to commence production in the Gascoyne and Pilbara regions, respectively, with both films serving as directorial debuts for WA filmmakers Miranda and Khrob Edmonds, and Alison James.
Applications open for First Facts: First Nations Factual Showcase initiative
A nationwide partnership between Screen Australia, Network 10 and state and territory agencies, the new initiative is aimed at First Nations practitioners with ideas for bold, engaging and thought-provoking short documentaries.

Screenwest and Screenworks, as part of their New Kids on the Block Program, are supporting a limited number of regionally-based WA filmmakers to attend the three-day Regional To Global Screen Forum from 30 March – 1 April 2023. Applications close Monday, 27 February 2023 at 9:00am AWST.
Applications now open for Australia – Indonesia Fast Track Initiative 2023 Travel Support
Screenwest is offering the opportunity for a limited number of WA screen practitioners to travel to Indonesia from 13-18 March 2023 as part of the Australia – Indonesia Fast Track Initiative. Applications close Monday, 20 February 2023 at 5:00pm AWST.

National Cultural Policy – a new era
Screenwest welcomes the Federal Government’s new National Cultural Policy, unveiling a number of measures which are set to have a positive impact on the Western Australian screen industry, including Australian content quotas for streaming and federal games funding.

A 24 week Accounts Assistant Attachment is available through the Screenwest Crew Attachment Program on two upcoming documentary series for SBS, produced by WA production company Artemis Media: Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley and Every Family Has a Secret Series 4. We’re extending the application deadline to Friday, 10 February 2023 at 5:00pm AWST.
Leila George, Sam Corlett & Greta Scacchi to star in David Vincent Smith’s debut feature ‘He Ain’t Heavy’
Marking the first Screenwest-supported feature to kick off production in Western Australia this year, writer/director David Vincent Smith and producer Jess Parker were the 2021 recipients of West Coast Visions, receiving $750,000 to produce their debut feature.
Six filmmaking teams receive Elevate funding
Screenwest is pleased to announce that six WA filmmaking teams have been selected to each produce a scripted short form project through Elevate, a professional skills development initiative.
Documentary Production Fund now open
Applications are now open for the third and final round of Documentary Production Funding for the 2022-23 financial year. Applications close Monday, 1 May 2023 at 5:00pm AWST.
