Edit Assistant Attachment on Facing Monsters
A Professional Attachment opportunity is available through the Screenwest Crew Attachment Program on an upcoming Feature Documentary Facing Monsters. Applications close Monday, 27 July 2020 at 5:00pm AWST.
About the Attachment
The successful candidate will complete a five week Edit Assistant Attachment under the expert guidance of Meredith Watson Jeffery where they will:
- gain exposure to the edit process,
- receive one on one mentoring by the film’s editor.
- liaise with post house Beyond Facilities and contribute to the post production supervision schedule and work flow reporting.
- Actively use software systems related to the post production process including AVID.
- Receive training on how to ingest and log rushes in a professional setting.
- gain knowledge of the post production process with specific opportunity to improve skill sets in the editing phase.
- increased their knowledge of the edit process as well as an understating of the industry standard AVID system.
- gain industry contacts
- gain a full understanding of the role of an editor and an assistant editor.

The successful recipient is anticipated to commence in the role on Monday, 3 August 2020 for two weeks with the remaining 3 weeks to occur in September after a brief hiatus.
If the right candidate cannot be found for this role, the attachment may be offered in another department.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements
In addition to the requirements in the Screenwest Crew Attachment Guidelines and Terms of Trade, the successful applicant will possess:
- A primary interest in becoming a professional editor
- An interest in Documentary storytelling and the process of “finding” the story
- Good organisational skills
- Attention to detail
- A basic understanding of the editing process because watching someone edit is not that exciting!
- Avid experience preferred but not totally necessary. Applicants are strongly encouraged to do an on-line tutorial if they have no experience in AVID.
Attachment Conditions
It is expected the successful Attachment will:
- Comply with the Producer’s workplace rules and requirements for safety and behaviour.
- Comply with all lawful and reasonable directions given to the Attachment by officers or employees of the Producer during the Term of the Attachment.
- Keep confidential any and all confidential information of the Producer that comes into the Attachment’s possession.
