AIDC and Google News Initiative are returning for the second year of Raw Data, Real Stories, a $60,000 pitching initiative open to journalists and nonfiction storytellers that celebrates experimentation and collaboration between story and technology to bring raw data to life.
In 2019 Raw Data, Real Stories broke new ground by re-imagining data’s role in storytelling within the nonfiction landscape through supporting the development of four data journalism proof of concepts with the creation of the eye-openingproject The Invisible Crime (The Age).
Raw Data, Real Stories 2020 invites journalists and storytellers from allbackgrounds to submit ideas for a data-driven story. Google News Initiative and AIDC will once again select four proposals to receive $5,000 each tosupport working with a technology team to develop a proof of concept for pitching at AIDC 2020.
The winning team will receive $40,000 of project funds to turn their raw data into a new creative work for a real audience.
