West Coast Visions 2022 opens today
Screenwest is pleased to open applications for the much coveted West Coast Visions, closing on Monday, 11 April 2022 at 5:00pm AWST.
Applications for West Coast Visions 2022 are now open!
Screenwest’s West Coast Visions initiative is a screen industry development program that provides production funding of $750,000 to low budget features that are to be produced in Western Australia.
The initiative is designed to uncover, inspire and develop talented and motivated writer/director/producer teams with distinctive visions, assisting them to fulfill their professional potential.
“West Coast Visions gives local filmmakers such a leg up in order to help get their stories on the screen. Making These Final Hours opened up doors to me on an international scale as a writer-director, ones that otherwise would have remained closed. I’m excited to see the next crop of talent coming out of WA through West Coast, one of the most crucial film financing schemes in Australia.“ said Zak Hilditch.
“If it weren’t for West Coast Visions, Hounds of Love certainly wouldn’t have been made. The fact that is was received so well at the Venice Film Festival is without a doubt what granted me the opportunity to work internationally. Personally, I can’t think of another program in the country which has launched so many filmmakers careers.” said Ben Young.
The two latest West Coast Visions films, Jub Clerc’s Sweet As and Renée Webster’s How to Please a Woman, are set to hit screens this year, with the latter making its world premiere at Perth Festival last month.
“It’s really hard getting your first film made. West Coast Visions is such an extraordinary fund for enabling productions to get to the screen. How to Please a Woman is a very audience focused film and a sell-out week at the Perth Festival was an exciting launch pad ahead of our main release in May this year. I’m currently in South Australia and thrilled to be directing an upcoming comedy-drama series for the ABC – West Coast Visions definitely opens up new horizons for the lucky (and hardworking) filmmakers who receive funding to step into their first feature film” said Renée Webster.
Last year, writer/director David Vincent Smith’s feature film He Ain’t Heavy (previously titled Burden), to be produced by Jessica Parker and Lauren Brunswick, was announced as the 2021 West Coast Visions recipient.
“Our West Coast Visions initiative has been running for over a decade, and in that time we’ve seen it launch careers and produce internationally-acclaimed WA feature films. I can’t wait to see the talent coming through in 2022 – selecting the team will be an incredibly tough job.” said Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO.
