Documentary Production Fund

Documentary Production Funding provides support to Western Australian Producers with distinctive, high quality and diverse projects with strong Western Australian outcomes.

All projects must provide COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Plans, that are expected to be in line with the Australian Screen Production Industry COVID-Safe Guidelines, and that comply with applicable State and Federal Covid Legislation.

The fund provides production finance for feature length documentary films and factual series with significant marketplace attachments from traditional and online platforms and distributors.

All productions that receive Screenwest production funding over $100,000 are required to budget for and engage a Western Australian attachment through the Crew Attachment Program in consultation with Screenwest.

Footloose Production Fund

Footloose Production Funding provides production funding to secure high profile, market driven, local, national and international footloose, scripted screen productions to Western Australia to showcase local stories, locations and/or culture to an international audience and to assist in the development of the Western Australian screen sector.

Western Australian Screen Fund

A Western Australian State Government Royalties for Regions funding initiative, provided through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries

The Western Australian Screen Fund (WASF) provides Production Funding that encourages regional film industry activity, builds local capacity, and contributes to the liveability and vibrancy of regional Western Australian Communities.

All projects must provide COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Plans, that are expected to be in line with the Australian Screen Production Industry COVID-Safe Guidelines, and that comply with applicable State and Federal Covid Legislation.

WASF provides funding through two stages:

  • Stage 1: Regional Scouting and Community Liaison Assistance (Stage 1 up to $10,000 AUD)
  • Stage 2: Production Funding (up to a maximum of $2,000,000)

All productions that receive Screenwest production funding over $100,000 are required to budget for and engage a Western Australian attachment through the Crew Attachment Program in consultation with Screenwest.

Western Australian Post, Digital and Visual Effects Rebate

A Western Australian State Government Royalties for Regions funding initiative, provided through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries

The Western Australian Post, Digital and Visual Effects (WA PDV) Rebate is a Western Australian post-production, digital and visual effects sector incentive that compliments the Australian Federal Government’s Australian Screen Production Incentive Producer Offset, Location Offset and PDV Offset streams.

Eligible applicants may apply for a discretionary rebate equivalent to 20% rebate for the first $500,000 AUD of expenditure (up to $100,000 AUD) and an additional 10% rebate for all expenditure over $500,000 AUD.

On Demand Content Fund

Applications are closed.

The On Demand Content Fund provides production funding for broadcast and/or online, interactive, virtual reality and/or multi-platform projects with a well-defined narrative, specifically for a national audience and potentially an international audience.

It is aimed at lower to mid-level-budget productions that have market attachment and financing partner/s.

Projects will need to have a well-defined narrative that will engage audiences on a broadcast, online platform, and/or screen-based device. Projects will also need to have significant market attachment and financing partner/s.

Curious Australia

A New SBS Documentary Initiative

Applications are closed.

This initiative aims to support practitioners from under-represented backgrounds and projects that reflect gender equity and/or the diversity of people and experiences from around Australia, all of which are important culturally, creatively and economically.

Curious Australia is a joint initiative between Screen Australia, SBS and NITV, Screen NSW, Film Victoria, Screenwest, Screen Tasmania, South Australian Film Corporation, Screen Queensland and Screen Territory to produce exciting and innovative documentaries for SBS and NITV platforms.

Up to thirteen documentaries will be commissioned as part of this strand to be broadcast on SBS On Demand, SBS Viceland and SBS & NITV.

SoundWAves Audible Development and Production Initiative

An Initiative in partnership with Audible

Applications are closed.

Audible and Screenwest have partnered to provide a first of its kind opportunity for Western Australian creatives – to develop and produce premium audio projects (non-fiction or fiction) for potential release on Audible.

Part of the Audible and Screenwest SoundWAves initiative, this opportunity aims to see up to two original, binge-worthy, and globally appealing audio projects of 3-6hrs in duration produced, that also have future path-to-screen possibilities.

SoundWAves Production and Post-Production Initiative

An Initiative in partnership with Audible

Applications are closed.

Audible and Screenwest have partnered to provide an incredible opportunity for up to two Western Australian based audio production facilities to produce scripted audio content for Audible, the world’s largest producer and provider of original spoken word entertainment.

The SoundWAves Production and Post-Production Initiative will see up to two successful companies produce two, pre-selected scripts as part of Audible’s Original Content Program, for delivery by the end of 2021.

West Coast Visions
