Two attachment opportunities on upcoming documentary series

Role: 1st Assistant Editor Attachment
Dates: Monday, 22 April – Friday, 28 June 2024 (ten weeks)
Location: Perth, WA
Production Companies: Periscope Pictures and Karla Hart Enterprises
The successful candidate will complete 10 consecutive weeks as a paid 1st Assistant Editor Attachment under the expert guidance of the 1st Assistant Editor, where they will:
- Gain a stronger, meaningful understanding of the fundamentals of the post-production process including data wrangling, assist editing, storytelling, improvement of communication skills and progress tracking.
- Gain hands on experience working on a fast-paced post-production workflow for an observational documentary series.
- Gain experience using DaVinci Resolve by managing media and transcoding footage to be used on editorial.
- Gain experience liaising with the camera and sound department.
- Acquire organization skills to track and manage a high volume of footage.
- Gain experience using Avid Media Composer to prepare media for multiple editors.
- Learn how to customize Avid workflow and tools to maximize creative output.
- Observe the process of editorial decisions for fine cut.
- Interact with a friendly and welcoming team.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements
In addition to the requirements in the Screenwest Crew Attachment Guidelines and Terms of Trade, the successful applicant will possess:
- A genuine interest in a career in post-production.
- Good knowledge of computer technology and experience using Avid Media Composer software.
- Completed a tertiary education in film and TV.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good work ethic and attention to detail.
- Problem solving attitude and desire to learn.
Special consideration will be given to applicants familiar with the use of DaVinci Resolve software, and with a portfolio of previous experience in post-production.

Role: Production Assistant Attachment
Dates: Monday, 11 March – Friday, 17 May 2024 (ten weeks)
Location: Perth, WA
Production Companies: Periscope Pictures and Karla Hart Enterprises
The successful candidate will complete 10 consecutive weeks as a paid Production Assistant Attachment under the expert guidance of the Production Manager, where they will:
- Gain an understanding of the departmental production processes of a long form documentary series and have the opportunity to be a junior contributing member of a documentary series production office.
- Be able to sit in on all levels of production meetings and gain an understanding of the fundamentals of the production process from the viewpoint of the production office setting, including (but not limited to) scheduling, general team management procedures, assisting senior crew members, and understanding factual production processes and deliverables.
- Gain a stronger understanding of the production processes in relation to a documentary series production being filmed nationwide.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements
In addition to the requirements in the Screenwest Crew Attachment Guidelines and Terms of Trade, the successful applicant will possess:
- A genuine interest in a career in the production office department.
- A genuine desire to gain experience in the local and national screen industry.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail and proactive work ethic.
- An intermediate understanding of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- A valid driver’s licence.
Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience within Indigenous communities and/or Indigenous film productions, and with prior film/television/theatre experience.
