Screenwest wants YOU to join the WA screen industry
Screenwest has partnered with Screen Careers to bring two crew skills development workshops to Perth. Set Educated and the Location Manager Intensive are designed to equip you with the contacts and know how needed to either change departments or take that first leap into show business.
Screenwest is pleased to partner with national skills development organisation Screen Careers to bring two Below-the-Line (BTL) skills development workshops, Set Educated and the Location Manager Intensive, to Western Australia. Both workshops are designed to address the current production demands and sustain long-term growth in the WA Screen Industry.
Both sessions will occur in East Perth in May. Regional practitioners are encouraged to reach out to Screenwest.
“Our hope is that opportunities like Set Educated will attract new practitioners into the screen industry and help the State keep up with current production demands as well as sustain long term growth. This one-day workshop is designed to equip aspiring screen professionals with the contacts and know how needed to take that leap into show business.” said Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO.
“We recognise that there’s a huge pool of people who would love to work in the screen industries but have little or no idea about jobs beyond producers, directors and writers. The jobs are out there, working in allied industries, with highly sought after skills. We’ll be introducing participants to a world of possibilities and providing them the knowledge they need to take their places on productions.” said Denise Eriksen, Screen Careers Head of Training and Education.
Set Educated – Saturday, 4 May 2024
Set Educated helps aspiring screen workers break into the industry while also showing professionals from a range of industries – including hospitality, events, accounting, electricians, hair & makeup artists, fashion and construction – how they can transfer their skills into the booming WA Screen industry. The full-day workshop will include:
- An overview of the screen industry;
- Insights from professional WA crew members;
- An overview of how to get your foot in the door;
- ‘Meet the Employer’ industry round tables;
- Networking opportunities.
Set Educated is open to all interested practitioners regardless of their previous experience in the screen industry. Tickets are $29.00 and can be purchased here.
Location Manager Intensive – Sunday, 5 May 2024
Co-hosted with industry professionals, the Location Manager Intensive will provide a limited number of WA practitioners with an understanding of Location Management and the mechanisms of bringing locations to the screen. The intensive will include an in-depth look at what the Locations department does (including who does what) on a typical production and the career pathways in the department.
Successful applications will also receive up to six months of follow-up sessions via Zoom to help them on their way.
The Location Manager Intensive is aimed at practitioners with transferrable skills from relevant departments or experience in relevant professions such as the Defence Force, events or hospitality management. Tickets are $125.00 and can be purchased here.
