Producer’s Attachment on Upcoming Observational Documentary Series
A Professional Attachment opportunity is available through the Screenwest Crew Attachment Program on an upcoming Factual Series. Applications close Monday 20 September at 5:00pm AWST.
About the Attachment
The successful candidate will complete a five non-consecutive weeks Producer’s Attachment under the expert guidance of Taryne Laffar and Sam Bodhi Field where they will:
- Sit in on all levels of production meetings dealing with budgets, schedules, travel coordination, team management etc.
- Be mentored in the departmental production processes of a state-wide long form documentary series set for broadcast.
- Have the opportunity to sit in and learn in a production office setting.
- Gain a stronger, meaningful understanding of the fundamentals of the production process from the viewpoint of the Production Office setting, including (but not limited to):
- budgeting
- scheduling
- general team management procedures
- comm’s / assisting senior crew members
- understanding deliverables
- Gain a stronger understanding of the production processes in relation to documentary series production.

The successful recipient is anticipated to commence in the role on Monday 4 October 2021 over five non-consecutive weeks until 20 December 2021.
If the right candidate cannot be found for this role, the attachment may be offered in another department.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements
In addition to the requirements in the Screenwest Crew Attachment Guidelines and Terms of Trade, the successful applicant will possess:
- Demonstrated commitment to gaining experience within the local and national film industry.
- Demonstrated interest in documentary production.
- Access to a working laptop.
- An intermediate understanding of Microsoft Excel & Word.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Strong communication skills.
- Interest in documentary production.
- Prior experience in film/television or theatre as well as familiarity with Dropbox and Trello is recommended but not essential.
- Individuals with experience within Indigenous communities and/or Indigenous film productions is preferred.
Attachment Conditions
It is expected the successful Attachment will:
- Comply with the Producer’s workplace rules and requirements for safety and behaviour.
- Comply with all lawful and reasonable directions given to the Attachment by officers or employees of the Producer during the Term of the Attachment.
- Keep confidential any and all confidential information of the Producer that comes into the Attachment’s possession.

An application receipt will be automatically forwarded to the applicant from SmartyGrants to confirm that Screenwest has received the application. It is the applicant’s responsibility to contact Screenwest if an application receipt has not been received within two working days.
