‘Barton Lynch Pro Surfing’ released Friday, 17 November
Supported through Screenwest's Digital Games Production Fund, Bungarra Software's sports game pits you against the world’s best surfers at the most exotic locations on the planet.
Screenwest is pleased to announce that Western Australian digital game Barton Lynch Pro Surfing is set to launch around the world on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC on Friday, 17 November.
Barton Lynch Pro Surfing is a sports simulation where you face top-notch surfers at the globe’s most stunning surf spots (including Margaret River in WA’s South West). The expansive world tour features an in-depth leaderboard and sports commentary, or if you prefer to free surf, simply cruise around the vast beaches at your leisure. Players can customise their character or play as some of today’s top pros including Yago Dora, Clay Marzo, Nathan Florence, Soli Bailey, Mahina Maeda, Vahine Fierro, Felicity Palmateer, and of course the legendary world champion, coach and Pro Surfing commentator Barton Lynch.
The game was developed by Bungarra Software, a game developer and publisher based in Fremantle and led by CEO Andrew West. Bungarra focuses on sports console games, with an expertise in action sports. Established in 1998, Barton Lynch Pro Surfing is the company’s second foray into the world of surfing, with retro-style leaderboard game The Surfer releasing on PC in 2012 and on PlayStation 3 in 2017.
“As a world champion, WSL & Olympic commentator as well as a Sport Australia Hall of Fame member, Barton Lynch is a legend of our sport and we are super stoked to be working with him on this title. We’ve built BL Pro Surfing primarily for surfing gamers, along with anyone interested in our sport and lifestyle. It’s also a game that is accessible for (non-gaming) surfers and we hope that they can see the love and passion we’ve put into this project for them. So while this sports game is pickup and play, it is difficult to master – it’s the first of what we hope will be many more sport titles to come out of Fremantle.” said Andrew West, Bungarra Software CEO.
Barton Lynch Pro Surfing is one of 13 WA digital games supported through the inaugural round of Screenwest’s Digital Games Production Fund. Launched in December 2022, the fund provides grants to Western Australian companies and key creatives to develop and release high-quality, diverse and engaging digital games.
“Bungarra Software is a great example of a Western Australian developer capable of producing high-quality titles and releasing them on major platforms. Barton Lynch Pro Surfing has the potential to reach an underserved audience of surfing enthusiasts both in Australia and worldwide, and I’m sure they’ll love what they see.” said Mark Smith, Screenwest Digital Games Manager.
Barton Lynch Pro Surfing will be available to purchase worldwide via Steam here, and on PS5 and Xbox Series X from Friday, 17 November.
