Applications open for Production Manager Accelerator Workshop 2024
Screenwest is pleased to announce the return of the successful Production Manager Accelerator Workshop for 2024. The workshop will provide a limited number of WA practitioners with an understanding of Production Management and the mechanics of taking a production from script to screen. Screenwest is pleased to announce the return of the successful Production Manager Accelerator Workshop for 2024, led by experienced WA Producer/Line Producer/Production Manager James Grandison. The workshop will provide a limited number of WA practitioners with an understanding of Production Management and the mechanics of taking a production from script to screen.
About Production Manager Accelerator Workshop 2024
The workshop sessions will run over four Saturdays from 3 – 24 February 2024. The workshop will take place in Perth (venue to be advised), with the option for regional practitioners to attend remotely.
Participants will receive:
- The knowledge and skills to read and interpret the requirements of a script to create a production overview schedule and budget.
- A clear understanding of the necessary milestones required for production planning.
- A clear understanding of the role and day-to-day responsibilities of a production manager during pre-production, shoot and wrap of a project.
- A strong understanding of the stages of production and the financial reporting obligations and requirements to funding bodies and investors.
Please note: successful participants must attend all four workshops.
About James Grandison
James began his career in Perth, producing television commercials and the acclaimed short film The Paddock. Following a stint in London where he worked at film design company Franki&Jonny, James produced the award-winning documentary My Uncle Bluey and production managed the feature film Wasted on the Young, before relocating to Melbourne in 2009. For the next decade James remained a highly regarded production manager, unit production manager and line producer with credits including Picnic at Hanging Rock, Underground, Nowhere Boys, Glitch, The King’s Daughter and Hunters.
Since returning to Perth in 2019, James has run the Western Australian office and produced/line produced the feature films The Surfer and Blueback and co-produced/line produced Sweet As for Arenamedia. In addition to his work with Arenamedia James recently co-produced the series Mystery Road: Origin and executive produced the feature film He Ain’t Heavy. James has also been a Consulting Production Executive for Matchbox Pictures since April 2022.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be a Western Australian resident and meet the general eligibility requirements set out in the Screenwest Terms of Trade.
- Have a genuine and demonstrated interest in pursuing a career as a Production Manager.
- Have either:
- Demonstrated experience working in the Production Department on Film & Television projects; or
- Transferrable skills from relevant departments; or
- High-level experience in a relevant profession such as event or hospitality management.
WA First Nations practitioners and WA practitioners from historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

Applications can be made through Screenwest’s SmartyGrants portal. You will need to provide:
- Expression of Interest (EOI) – 500 words maximum. Your EOI should address why you wish to attend the workshop, identifying the professional outcomes you wish to achieve.
- CV – 2 pages maximum.
- One page bio – 500 words maximum.
Applications will be assessed based on the strength of the EOI, demonstrated experience/relevant skillset and commitment to a career in production management.
