West Coast Visions launching early 2022
Screenwest is pleased to announce that applications for the much coveted West Coast Visions will officially open in the new year.
Screenwest’s West Coast Visions is an annual screen industry initiative that provides $750,000 production funding for low-budget features to be produced in Western Australia.
The initiative is designed to uncover, inspire and develop local talent and skills. It supports talented and motivated writer/director/producer teams with distinctive visions who will utilise this initiative to fulfil their professional potential.
Projects and talent supported through this initiative have been highly successful both nationally and internationally, launching the careers of many WA filmmakers. A number of West Coast Visions films have gone on to premiere at Cannes, Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, with many securing US representation and exciting overseas opportunities for their directors.
Previous recipients include:
- Ben C. Lucas – Wasted on the Young
- Zak Hilditch – These Final Hours
- Ben Young – Hounds of Love
- Stephen McCallum – 1%
- Maziar Lahooti – Below
- Jub Clerc – Sweet As (currently in post-production)
- Renée Webster – How to Please a Woman (making its world premiere at Perth Festival next week)
Most recently, writer/director David Vincent Smith’s feature film He Ain’t Heavy (previously titled Burden), to be produced by Jessica Parker and Lauren Brunswick, was announced as the 2021 West Coast Visions recipient.
Screenwest encourages all potential applicants to read the guidelines over the summer break ahead of West Coast Visions opening on SmartyGrants in January 2022.
