WA documentary series The Bizarre Pet Vets premieres Sunday at 7:00pm on 9Gem
From feathery friends to scaly reptiles and native Australian mammals, Metamorflix's lively documentary series follows a team of bizarre pet vets as they treat the weirdest and most loved animals in Australia.
Screenwest is pleased to announce that Western Australian documentary series The Bizarre Pet Vets, produced by Metamorflix, is premiering Sunday at 7.00pm on 9Gem.
The six-part observational documentary series follows Dr James Haberfield and his team from The Unusual Pet Vets, who treat bizarre and beloved animals. With three clinics across the country, the team sees hundreds of species every week and must use their expertise and some clever handiwork to save the weirdest and most wonderful pets in the country.
From freshwater crocodiles and chatty parrots to sugar gliders and snakes, frogs and lizards: they are all regular patients at the clinics. Local wildlife is brought in, emergency cases arrive and the vets are called out to local zoos and aquariums for help – there is never a dull moment for a bizarre pet vet.
The Bizarre Pet Vets is written and produced by Renee Kennedy of WA production company Metamorflix. Based in Perth, Metamorflix develops and produces original, award-winning screen stories across multiple genres with a focus on factual and documentary series. Their titles include landmark observational documentary series Family Rules for NITV, children’s documentary series Project Planet for ABCME and The Shark Hunters for Discovery.
“I am thrilled to be able to bring extraordinary work of Dr James Haberfield and his team at The Unusual Pet Vets to the screen for Channel Nine. James studied in WA and opened his first practice here after graduating from Murdoch University 10 years ago. It’s wonderful to be able to tell the heart-warming stories of the bizarre critters he and his fellow vets care for – and show the love the owners have for their feathered, furry and scaly friends.” said Renee Kennedy, Bizarre Pet Vets Writer/Producer.
“Renee and the Metamorflix team have captured unique and compassionate journeys, giving us a rare glimpse into the world of turtle surgeries and penguin endoscopies. I look forward to seeing audiences enjoy this engrossing series.” said Paul Williams, Screenwest Documentary Executive.
The Bizarre Pet Vets premieres this Sunday, September 11, at 7.00pm on 9Gem. Catch up on 9Now and Stan.
