Vale Peter Lalor
Throughout his career Peter Lalor championed the arts and screen industries and was heralded as a key contributor in the revival of the gold industry in Western Australia.
The former Screenwest Board Chair (1995 – 1999) died on Sunday, 5 April 2020 after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Early in his career Peter represented many artists and arts organisations as a lawyer however is probably most well known in the sector for being one of the founding members of the Perth Film and Television Institute (formerly FTI).
Peter founded the Sons of Gwalia mining company with his bother Chris, which was, at its peak, Australia’s third biggest gold producer and controlled one third of the world’s tantalum. Through his work with Sons of Gwalia, Peter maintained his commitment to the arts, and the organisation sponsored The West Australian Ballet and Artrage.
“Peter was an exemplary contributor to the arts and screen sectors in Western Australia and Screenwest sincerely appreciated his guidance and expertise as Board Chair as it transitioned to a new entity. He will be deeply missed within the screen community and our heartfelt condolences are with his family,” said John Driscoll, Board Chair of Screenwest.
