Screenwest is pleased to announce eight successful projects will be funded through the 2018-19 Elevate and Generate Initiatives.
The Elevate and Generate Initiatives are skills development programs that provide support for the development and production for scripted short films or web series.
“The high calibre of creative talent in this year’s projects were exceptional with a strong number of diverse voices being represented on and off the screen,” said Screenwest Talent Development Manager Eva Di Blasio.
“We can’t wait to see the teams bring these projects to life.”
All eight projects selected through the Elevate and Generate Initiatives will be Executive Produced by Rikki Lea Bestall. Rikki will assist with the development process with each of the successful projects and will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of the productions.
“I am honoured to be working with such a talented, passionate group of filmmakers on a variety of inspiring and entertaining short films,” said Rikki Lea Bestall.
In addition to the support of an experienced Executive Producer, this year’s Elevate and Generate teams will partake in a two-day workshop that will focus on moving their projects closer to production.
The workshop will involve working with experienced heads of department to garner a greater understanding of all aspects of filmmaking including safety, budgeting and scheduling, as well as gather valuable creative feedback.

About the Funds
Elevate Short Form Development and Production Initiative
The Elevate initiative is a skills development program providing support for the development and production of scripted short films (live action, animation or web-series) to provide a calling-card for early to mid-career Western Australian filmmakers.
Elevate is a multi-phased program involving high-level script and project development prior to moving into production.
The program consists of two strands, Elevate30 and Elevate70, both of which have a diversity element again highlighting Screenwest’s commitment to its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Plan and ensuring access opportunities to all WA practitioners.
Generate is a skills development program providing support for early-career Western Australian filmmakers to make imaginative drama, comedy and animated short films or web series pilots.
The objective of Generate is to give talented new-comers to the screen industry, or new-comers to directing, a chance to take their skills to the next level.
