Small Screen in Focus: An In Conversation with Niki Aken
Screenwest is bringing out the wonderful Niki Aken as a special guest to launch the new round of Small Screen on Monday, 10 February 2020.
Niki will discuss her career successes and provide advice on her tips and tricks navigating the television world of screen writing in a conversation hosted by Talent Development Manager Eva Di Blasio.
Niki will be available to provide script advice to the current small screen recipients in one on one sessions throughout the week. Barbara Connell, Screenwest’s new Drama Development Manager will also be available to answer any questions about our current round of Small Screen.

About Niki Aken
Niki Aken is a multi award-winning writer working across drama and comedy.
Niki co-wrote THE HUNTING for SBS / Closer Productions – which won the 2019 AACTA Award for Best Screenplay in Television for Episode 3 “#shittyboys”. Niki also script produced the acclaimed comedy-drama series UPRIGHT, starring Tim Minchin, for Foxtel and Sky UK. She is the Script Producer on WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS – an upcoming comedy series for ABC, and was Script Editor for the second series of commuter-comedy SQUINTERS for ABC / Jungle.
Prior to this, Niki wrote on series two and three of acclaimed legal thriller JANET KING for ABC, as well as script editing the second series. She co-wrote the historical WW1 mini-series ANZAC GIRLS, which was the highest-rating drama on ABC in 2014, and won the 2014 Best Adapted Screenplay AWGIE.
Niki researched and wrote two episodes – including the finale – for the true-crime drama Underbelly: Badness, which was awarded the Best Original Miniseries AWGIE in 2013.
Her other television work includes CHOSEN for Playmaker Media and IQIYI; HYDE AND SEEK for Matchbox Pictures/Nine Network; and THE SECRET DAUGHTER for Screentime/ Seven.
