Screenwest is excited to launch Breaking the Celluloid Ceiling for Western Australian female and non-binary screen creatives. Applications close Monday 22 March, 2021 at 5:00pm AWST.
Empowering Western Australian female and non-binary producers to develop ground-breaking drama projects, is just the latest Screenwest initiative to foster emerging talent and diversify the WA Industry.
Breaking the Celluloid Ceiling is a bespoke mentorship program designed to meaningfully support three mid-career female or non-binary producers to create bold new, Western Australian work for film and television.
“The ‘celluloid ceiling’ is a term that reflects the low number of key female or non-binary creatives employed in the screen industry, but Screenwest is proud to be leading the change in Western Australia,” explained Franziska Wagenfeld, Development and Production Executive at Screenwest.
Successful applicants will work with female and/or non-binary teams and be mentored by an experienced script development executive to develop projects of their choice.
The new initiative will build business sustainability, strengthen the WA industry, and hone the producers’ creative skills and market acumen, enabling them to create high-quality projects, with strong audience appeal.
Wagenfeld explained, “The initiative presents an incredible opportunity for female and/or non-binary screen practitioners to work with some of the most experienced script developers within the Australian industry and will support Screenwest’s ambition to enhance local skills within the drama space.”
Screenwest has identified the need to continue to develop screen practitioners to ensure greater gender representation within the industry in WA, but also to increase their opportunities for international success.
