Screenwest Announces Support for WA Film Festivals
Screenwest is pleased to announce three festivals have been funded through the latest Tier Two Audience and Community Engagement funding round.
Over the 2019-20 financial year, festivals and screen culture activities supported by Screenwest’s Audience and Community Engagement Fund (ACEF) reached combined attendances of over 43,000 people. Screenwest is proud to support these activities, which offered an incredibly diverse collection of events and screenings and provided the opportunity for WA stories to be shared with new audiences across different communities and locations.
This year’s ACEF Tier Two recipients will receive further development through the program to help them become more sustainable and engaged with the community and WA filmmakers. This support will include:
- introductions to new networks and filmmakers in their relevant communities through Screenwest
- professional development opportunities and
- support with planning, engagement, and promotional activities.
By providing this additional development support, Screenwest aims to support these events:
- solidify their potential as screening platforms and to grow opportunities for screen culture engagement in WA, and
- future proof their activities and contributing to the overall sustainability and vibrancy of the sector for the benefit of the WA community.
Screenwest CEO Willie Rowe said, “Sharing screen culture is a vital element of our screen industry, not only in local engagement sharing WA stories, but on a national and international scale. It brings widespread value as a platform for promotion of WA screen projects.”
WA Made Festival was one of the three activities supported, Festival Director Matthew Eeles said, “We were overwhelmed by the support we received for the inaugural WA Made Film Festival in March. We can’t wait to do it all again next year thanks to the generous support of Screenwest. We will continue to showcase and celebrate the hard work and dedication of local filmmakers by sharing their work with an enthusiastic audience who are genuinely excited to see local content on the big screen.”
“We are so thrilled to again have the support of Screenwest, as we launch the 5th PRIDE Queer Film Festival. This will enable us to bring some of the best queer films from around the world to Perth next March,” said Mark Reid, Festival Artistic Director.
