Screenwest and Audible Announce New SoundWAves Initiatives
Audible – a leading provider and producer of original spoken word entertainment – has partnered with Screenwest to provide two unique funding opportunities for Western Australian creatives.
Screenwest will hosted a Q&A session with the Head of Content for Audible.com.au, for the SoundWAves Audio Development and Production Information Session. Unfortunately a recording of this session is not available for distribution.
SoundWAves – Audio Development and Production Initiative
Applications close Monday, 12 July 2021 at 5pm AWST.
One of the opportunities available is to develop and produce audio projects for potential release on Audible. Up to two original, binge-worthy, globally appealing audio projects (fiction or non-fiction) will be selected for development and production for audio. Applicants can apply for up to $100,000 in funding per project. Screenwest and Audible will assess projects, with the projects selected having global appeal, and clear path-to-screen potential.
Screenwest will host a Western Australian industry-wide, online Q&A event with Ben Naparstek, Head of Content for Audible.com.au, to discuss the initiative, tell potential applicants what Audible is looking for and answer questions.
Additional project support will also be provided to the teams selected, including a ‘Writing for Audio’ workshop with script editor and story developer, Jamey Claffey.

SoundWAves – Audio Production and Post-Production Initiative
Expressions of interest for the Post-Production initiative are now closed
The Production and Post-production component of the SoundWAves Initiative will see up to two successful Western Australian based audio production facilities produce two, pre-selected scripts Pas part of Audible’s Original program, for delivery by the end of 2021.
Two full scripts – for mystery The Missed and sci-fi thriller Crash Cover – will be available to applicants once they have met the requirements of the Stage One application process.
“Audible is excited to be expanding its pool of collaborators into the West Australian creative sector,” said Ben Naparstek, Head of Content for Audible.com.au. “More and more screen creators are looking to audio as an alternative format to tell stories and capture new audiences and these initiatives are outstanding opportunities for industry practitioners to develop new skills and reach a global listenership.”
“Screenwest is excited to partner with Audible on the new SoundWAves initiative,” said Screenwest CEO Rikki-Lea Bestall. “These two unique initiatives – one to develop and produce original WA content with a potential pathway to screen – and another for WA audio production facilities to produce original Audible scripts, offer equally exciting opportunities for our talented WA industry to be exposed to a global audience.”
