Screenwest 2019-20 Annual Report Released
Screenwest and the Western Australian Screen Industry weathered the COVID-19 storm and delivered significant results for the wider Western Australian economy and community in 2019-20.
This is showcased through the Screenwest 2019-20 Annual Report which is now available on the publications page on the Screenwest website.
Screenwest CEO Willie Rowe explained, “Despite the challenges faced in the second half of the financial year, Screenwest has supported the Western Australian Screen Industry to develop and produce a range of projects which showcase WA talent and stories and provide significant economic impact for the state.”
He added, “It is with the ongoing support from The State Government of Western Australia and our valued partners Lotterywest that we are able to continue to assist our industry reach its full potential.”

The Screen Industry Delivers Economic Impact for Western Australia
- 7% increase in qualifying Western Australian expenditure (QWAE) from the previous financial year with a total of $51,568,415 spent in WA generated through Screenwest funded productions.
- 5% increase in qualifying Western Australian Regional expenditure from the previous financial year with $9,228,647 spent in the regions generated through Screenwest funded productions.
- $383 million in Total Income Generated2

Job Creation
- 5,617 total FTE Jobs3
(3 Includes direct, indirect, and induced impacts – those relating to goods and service suppliers, and re-spending in the wider economy – generated through the production activity in which Screenwest has invested.)
Gender Parity
We boast an impressive cohort of talented female key creatives, with 51.82% of Western Australian key creative roles4 (producer, director, writer) filled by Western Australians who identify as female.

Creating Artistic and Cultural Content
In 2019-20 Screenwest supported:
- The production of 120 hours of screen content, and;
- 37 projects which entered principal photography including;
- 1 Drama Feature
- 3 Drama TV Series
- 7 Drama Short Form (includes short series and online)
- 8 Documentary TV Series
- 4 Documentary TV Singles
- 2 Documentary Short Form (includes short series and online)
- 5 Documentary Feature
- 1 VR / Interactive Project
- 5 Games / Interactive Projects
- 1 Post-production, Digital and Visual Effects Project
1 Please note the 2019-20 Key Statistics are represented by Screenwest funded projects that commenced principal photography (shooting) in the 2019-20 financial year, which may not be the same year the project was funded. They are taken from audited projects where the project has audited and contracted where audit has not occurred and are accurate statistics for the 2019-20 financial year as at 30 June 2020.
