New guidelines set to better support WA’s Screen Culture Practitioners and Screen Activities for the community.
The Audience and Community Engagement Funding (ACEF) Program supports screen culture events and activities to enhance vibrancy, advancing and sharing culture within the Western Australian community.
The fund has continued to deliver strong outcomes for exhibition of WA works, sharing of screen culture, and industry development. The competitive fund supports activities with the capacity to grow and reach new audiences and provide significant benefit for Western Australian Filmmakers and the community.
Key updates to the guidelines include:
- Inclusion of Professional Development support
To better sustain and future focus the screen culture industry a small amount of professional development resources will be offered annually to successful Tier 1 & 2 applicants. This could be used towards travel, mentorship, conference attendance, special courses etc. - Inclusion of Disability and Inclusion practises
To continue best practice in events management processes and ensure that they align with Screenwest’s Diversity strategy, leadership, and advocacy. - Introduction of Tier Three
The introduction of an additional tier between the existing two tiers, ensures that Screenwest is able to support activities at a generous level allowing better examination of the cultural landscape and the proposed activities plan annually dependant on available funds. This will mean that funding for smaller festivals of up to $10,000, previously known Tier 2 will be become Tier 3 to allow for the additional tier. - Transition to new application form on Smarty Grants
The changes have been introduced after selected 2020 ACEF recipients received development support in light of changing circumstances with COVID-19. The funding was provided help them become more sustainable and engaged with the community and WA filmmakers. This support varied and included introductions to new networks and filmmakers in their relevant communities, professional and business development opportunities and support with planning, engagement, and promotional activities.
By providing this development support, Screenwest supports these events to grow opportunities for screen culture engagement in WA, future proofing their activities and contributing to the overall sustainability and vibrancy of the sector for the benefit of the WA community.
Screenwest CEO Willie Rowe said, “Screenwest’s continual investment of support into this program best develops and empowers the variety of screen culture activities for Western Australia. As I’ve said previously, our film festivals and screening programs bring widespread value to our industry as a platform for promotion of WA screen projects and showcasing our stories and incredible skilled talent to audiences in our community, nationally and globally.”
