International Women’s Day Celebrated at Yagan Square
Screenwest and Development WA are excited to partner with the WA Women’s Hall of Fame to celebrate International Women’s day by sharing the inspiring stories of our state’s leading women. The exhibition will run until 31 March, 2020.
Incredible stories of female visionaries, pioneers, activists and artists – women who have led the way and made a positive difference to Western Australia, will be shared as part of an exhibition on the Yagan Square Digital Tower and inside the Market Hall.
As part of the exhibition, the 2020 inductees to the WA Women’s Hall of Fame and past trail-blazing inductees will be honoured through an exhibition featuring a selection of portraits. Artworks have been created by talented female, professional WA artists including Jodie Davidson, Kelly Canby, Rahalie McGuirk, Alice McCullagh, Kathy Bierma, Pippa Scheepers and Suzanne Joy Lu.
The WA Women’s Hall of Fame inductee portraits will be displayed on the Yagan Square Digital Tower along with their remarkable stories, which is hoped will showcase some of the phenomenal women in the WA community and inspire others.
“There are so many brilliant women in Western Australia who are thought leaders, innovators and sincere contributors to the development and sustainability of the local community. We are so pleased to be able to showcase their talents and stories through this special exhibition,” explained Professor Colleen Hayward, Board Member of Screenwest and 2012 Inductee to the WA Women’s Hall of Fame.
“The place where Yagan Square stands is recognised as historically significant for Noongar women. It is fitting that we are able to showcase and recognise the achievements of these remarkable women, both on the Yagan Square Digital Tower and inside the Market Hall,” said Caryn Earnshaw, Manager of Yagan Square at DevelopmentWA.
The 16 new inductees to the WA Women’s Hall of Fame and the women featured in the exhibition which were announced publicly on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2020.
