WA Screen Industry Diversity Leadership Group
Screenwest formed the WA Screen Industry Diversity Leadership Group (DLG) in 2017 as part of their ongoing commitment to creating a more diverse and inclusive screen industry.
The DLG was assembled to represent a cross-section of the screen industry including those who:
- identify as diverse
- have direct experience in living/implementing diversity
These people gather to share their experience and knowledge with the wider screen community.
They aim to achieve increased participation of diverse groups of people across the screen industry in Western Australia, following the recommendations of the WA Screen Industry Diversity and Inclusion Roadmap (’Roadmap’).
The Roadmap encompasses diversity in its broadest sense, embracing differences in gender, age, language, ethnicity, cultural background, disability, religious beliefs, socio economic profile, geographic location and sexual orientation, as per the Australian Human Rights Commission definition.
With screen industry support, the Roadmap aims to strengthen the richness and creativity of screen storytelling and in doing so, deliver social and economic dividends for the industry.
Screenwest in partnership with the DLG and the industry as a whole, will play an important role in the Roadmap’s continued development and implementation to achieve a meaningful shift towards a more diverse screen industry.
The role of the DLG is to bring valuable perspectives to the development and implementation of Screenwest’s actions answering the Roadmap. The group meets 4 times a year.
