Documentary series ‘Ningaloo Nyinggulu’ premiering 16 May on ABC
Artemis Media and Matter of Factual's three-part series follows celebrated writer Tim Winton, as he takes us on a journey through one of the last wild and intact places left on the planet.
Screenwest is pleased to announce that the highly anticipated WA documentary series Ningaloo Nyinggulu is set to premiere on ABC TV and iview on Tuesday, 16 May.
Written, narrated and executive produced by acclaimed Australian author and conservation activist, Tim Winton, this three-part nature documentary series tells the remarkable story of Ningaloo – one of the last intact wild places on our planet. Located on a remote edge of the world’s largest island, where red desert meets turquoise waters, WA’s Ningaloo region is comprised of three entwined ecosystems: Ningaloo Reef, Cape Range and Exmouth Gulf. A region that has supported humans for over 40,000 years, Ningaloo is a refuge for many species endangered or extinct elsewhere.
Over three episodes filmed in remote Western Australia, Tim Winton shares the wonders of the place that has inspired his work for decades, joining Traditional Owners, scientists and other experts to understand how Ningaloo endures as a mighty global lifeboat of biodiversity and showcases why it is a beacon of hope in the face of an extinction crisis and climate emergency.
Ningaloo Nyinggulu is produced by Western Australian production company Artemis Media (Every Family Has a Secret, Australia’s Health Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley) in association with Matter of Factual. The series is executive produced by Celia Tait, with Peter Rees (Mythbusters) serving as series director, co-producer and contributing additional writing. Filming took place for a total of 57 weeks over a two-year period, with an incredible 2,000 hours of footage recorded.
“It’s been an extraordinary opportunity and privilege to work with author Tim Winton, and the Traditional Owners, to bring this remote outpost of Western Australia to global attention – a fragile and precious place that continues to thrive whilst remaining perilously vulnerable to human pressures.” said Celia Tait, Ningaloo Nyinggulu Executive Producer.
“We’re proud to be supporting Ningaloo Nyinggulu and look forward to seeing national and international audiences delve into this stunning love letter to our State’s unique Gascoyne region. Congratulations to Tim, Artemis Media and all the incredible WA practitioners involved in bringing this series to life.” said Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO.
Ningaloo Nyinggulu premieres Tuesday, 16 May at 8:30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
