Director of Photography Attachment on Factual Series ‘Ningaloo’, available for a Gascoyne Practitioner
A Professional Attachment opportunity is available through the Screenwest Crew Attachment Program on Factual Series 'Ningaloo'. Applications close Monday 18 August at 5:00pm AWST.
About the Attachment
The successful candidate will complete a Five week Director of Photography attachment over a period of 8 months under the expert guidance of DOP’s Torstein Dyrting and David Parer where they will:
- Observe the DOP process – approach and application in preparation, shoot and post shoot prep of footage for the edit.
- Learn about camera techniques including handling the Sony A7S III and RED, plus Ronin, timelapse, slow motion, macro photography,
- Learn about camera gear – and interchanging parts for different functions. Handling/ looking after gear and lens selection.
- Learn about narrative construction – how to get shots that tell a story and understanding the story unfolding in front of you.
- Understand the specific challenges of wildlife filmmaking and approach / techniques to combat them.
- Assist with preparing gear / loading batteries/ lenses / buddy dive and assist underwater shoots / cleaning + packing away + data wrangling + ingesting +logging.
The successful candidate may also receive the opportunity to shoot/ co shoot a sequence once up to speed on basics, with review of footage for feedback.

Requirements
In addition to the requirements in the Screenwest Crew Attachment Guidelines and Terms of Trade, the successful applicant will have :
- An interest in Documentary storytelling and particularly natural history.
- Moderate camera operational experience both on land and underwater. Previous experience assisting camera operators is desirable.
- Scuba diving qualifications. Skipper’s ticket and first aid qualifications desirable.
- Basic data wrangling and editing experience.
- Residency in the Gascoyne region. The training will take place in and around Exmouth.
- Good organizational skills and professional attitude.
Attachment Conditions
It is expected the successful Attachment will:
- Comply with the Producer’s workplace rules and requirements for safety and behaviour.
- Comply with all lawful and reasonable directions given to the Attachment by officers or employees of the Producer during the Term of the Attachment.
- Keep confidential any and all confidential information of the Producer that comes into the Attachment’s possession.
