IS AUSTRALIA SEXIST? wins at the Asian Television Awards
Documentary IS AUSTRALIA SEXIST? has won the award for Best Documentary Programme at the Asian Television Awards.
Western Australia’s Joined Up Pictures has just been awarded Best Documentary Programme (One-Off/Special) for IS AUSTRALIA SEXIST? at the Asian Television Awards in Singapore. The documentary won out against films from India, Taiwan and Japan to secure the top prize.
The documentary posed the question, “Is life in the lucky country actually harder for a woman than it is for a man?” to the nation in the largest ever survey commissioned on the issue of sexism in Australia. Then, in a series of ground-breaking experiments the audience witnessed sexism through the eyes of those who endure the worst of it. Hosted by Yumi Stynes and the documentary explored the front line of this global movement for change, to see where Australia stood as a nation in an attempt to answer the question – Is Australia Sexist?
“We are absolutely thrilled that ‘Is Australia Sexist’ won the Best Documentary Award at the Asian Television Awards last month. It’s fantastic that this in-depth exploration into sexism in Australia has been so well received overseas and has hopefully left a lasting impression and pathway for change at home in Australia. Joined Up is exceptionally appreciative of the support from SBS, Screen Australia and Screenwest to produce the documentary.”
“It’s fantastic that this Western Australia documentary has been acknowledged for it’s outstanding exploration into such a contentious subject in Australia. Screenwest was pleased to support this production and I encourage everyone to watch the program on SBS On Demand,” said Matt Horrocks, Head of Screen Investment and Strategic Projects at Screenwest.
