AIDC Back for 2020 with expanded Pitching Opportunities

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, AIDC’s centrepiece international pitching event for documentary and factual is expanding to accommodate more producers, projects and decision makers.

There are a variety of new and returning opportunities for practitioners at all different career levels, see them in more detail and how to apply below.

FACTory 2020

Taking on feedback from the local and international industry, the FACTory forum is transforming to provide greater exposure for documentary and factual projects from development right through to rough cut stage, across features, singles, and series, both limited and returnable.

Presented by Film Victoria, the retooled FACTory 2020 will contain three strands: Forum Pitches, Rough Cut Sessions, and the New Talent Pitch.

• For projects in development and production, FACTory 2020 Forum Pitches will be organised with a new focus on genre to ensure the best possible visibility to commissioners, funders, streamers, networks, distributors, sales agents and more.
• For projects in post-production, AIDC is announcing the FACTory 2020 Rough Cut Sessions, a new closed-to-public program of rough cut screenings for invited decision makers only. This has been specifically designed to close financing gaps, and secure sales, distribution and festival opportunities.
• And finally, projects including a first-time director or first-time producer will immediately be considered for the FACTory 2020 New Talent Pitch, providing AIDC an opportunity to showcase the brightest new talent to decision makers and production companies from all over the world.

The regular deadline is Friday, 13 December 2019 and the late deadline is Wednesday, 18 December 2019.

Pitch Australiana

One team will be awarded a $50,000 commission by Screen Australia and VICE AU/NZ, as well as complimentary access to VICE’s services, and be released online through leading global media company VICE as part of their digital series, Australiana.

The Witness Pitch

Up to three projects will receive a $100,000 commission for a 25-minute documentary to be released on Al Jazeera English’s Witness across Al Jazeera platforms including television, online and apps.

Australia Uncovered

Shortlisted projects will compete for a share of $80,000 in development funds, available to single one hour of feature documentaries that explore diversity and equality in Australia. Filmmakers are encouraged to be creative in their approach to style, form and construct.

Cut to the Chase

AIDC passholders may submit projects at any stage (any length/format) to be considered for one-on one project’s with both international and local decision makers.

In addition to all of these programs, AIDC will be launching additional marketplace opportunities and professional development initiatives in 2019, including:

• XR Marketplace (interactive projects)
• Raw Data Real Stories (data-storytelling)
• ACCESS mentorship program (early career)
• Indigenous Creators Program (indigenous)
• Canadian/Australian Co-production Program (established)
