XR:WA returns to Perth next week
Explore the immersive world of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and digital gaming at the annual XR:WA free Conference and Expo, running 15 - 18 September at the Perth Cultural Centre.
Screenwest is pleased to support XR:WA for 2022, which kicks off next week and is set to deliver a bold and innovative lineup of digital screen technology events.
Now in its fourth year, the conference and exhibition showcases the ideas, works, technology and constantly evolving environment of the Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), immersive technology and digital games industry across four days at multiple locations in the Perth Cultural Centre including the WA Museum Boola Bardip, PICA and State Library of WA.
“We’re very proud to be able to bring close to 100 of some of the most dynamic VR, games and augmented reality experiences to local audiences and industry free of charge. These talks, discussions and exhibitions include innovations and approaches that take each of the forms to new and ambitious territory for WA audiences and we can’t wait to see the impact.” said Richard Sowada, XR:WA Director.
The 2022 program includes panels, workshops, an Academic Conference and AR, VR and gaming experiences – all designed to delve into the immersive and digital screen-based forms of art, entertainment, education and training, science and research, and business.
Local highlights include the works of WA artist SUTU (aka Stuart Campbell), Ian Wilkes and Poppy van Oorde-Grainger’s 360 VR film Galup VR Experience, which uncovers untold stories of Noongar culture at Lake Monger; and Viewport VR’s Perth architectural explorations Perth Modulated – A City in Flux and El Caballo Blanco – History at your Fingertips.
XR:WA’s discussions and roundtables will tackle areas including the current funding and financing environment, relevant local and national strategies in the games and immersive sector across art, entertainment and documentary outputs, employment and training within the Extended Reality (XR) industry and international distribution for VR. Speakers include Natalie Marinho, Lead Producer at Voyant Augmented Reality and Chair of Immerse Australia; Kristian Raston of Austrade and Amelia Laughlan, Screen Australia’s Games Investment Manager.
