Screenwest is pleased to announce that registrations are open for the First Nations VR Truth-Telling Documentary Initiative online workshop, taking place on Friday, 4 October 2024.
Announced last week, the initiative is designed to uncover distinctive WA First Nations voices, support their career progression and enable practitioners to explore new story-telling mediums and markets. The initiative will take place over three stages, starting with the compulsory online workshop.
Following the workshop and a dedicated period of concept development, up to three concepts will be selected for production. The successful teams will be provided with up to $150,000 production funding each to produce a short VR documentary.
Stage One – Compulsory Online Workshop
The three-hour workshop will cover the methods and technology required to make short VR documentaries.
It will be facilitated by new media artist duo Emma Roberts and Ben Andrews, who have created some of the largest location-based VR works in Australia, including installations ALLTHESTARSTHEYBLEEDTOGETHER (2016) and STARLESS (2017). Their 2022 project Gondwana premiered at Sundance 2022 before showing at SXSW, Adelaide Festival, ACMI, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Science Gallery Michigan, and Kunstahl Charlottenborg.
All creatives interested in applying must attend this workshop to be eligible for Stage Two (concept development) funding.
Date: Friday, 4 October 2024
Time: 2:00pm – 5:00pm AWST
Where: Zoom – register here to attend. Registrations close 24 hours before the workshop, on Thursday, 3 October.
