Hi everyone, I’m Willie Rowe and welcome to the October update for Screenwest.

I’m delighted to have you here again.

Firstly, I’d like to welcome Paul Williams who’s joined our team in the last couple of weeks as the manager of documentary, just in time for our Documentary Production round and our Documentary Development round. That’s a mouthful there…

On Tuesday, we held the Industry Networking event for the industry, which was really well attended…

and we were also really delighted to award the Brian Beaton Award to the recipients Sam Lara and Brooke Silcox for their two projects LAURA’S CHOICE and 29 YEARS AND EIGHT DAYS respectively.

There’s a fantastic opportunity for them to see the development of those two very, very important projects.

A couple of weeks ago we hosted, in association with AFTRS, the national Talent Camp for emerging practitioners from diverse backgrounds.

It was a great opportunity to have about 20 emerging practitioners here in Screenwest’s offices and they were focusing in on web series and storytelling, which was really quite exciting.

I had a good opportunity to chat to a number of the participants and they were really, really excited – somewhat daunted by having to do a pitch – but they all came through it really, really well and I think it was a great outcome. Congratulations to all that were involved.

Next week we’ve got a roadshow going to Broome as part of our regional roadshows, and that’ll include Gabby Cole and Eva di Blasio.

That’s got two steps associated with it. One’s a workshop that will be conducted for practitioners in the regions so they can get an understanding of the programs that are available – funding programs and development programs – and then Eva will be conducting one-on-one interviews. Keep an eye out on our website for that and you can book one-on-one meetings with Eva.

It’s the first of these roadshows that will be going throughout the state, so we’ll keep you updated as to when they’re going on.

Also, as part of the regional roadshows that Gabby and Eva are going on, Film Friendly will become one of the focuses for that.

We launched Film Friendly earlier this year and now we’re taking it into the regions and meeting with various local government authorities, chambers of commerce, tourism associations to work with them to show how Film Friendly can really add benefit to the regions.

So, you can see it’s a pretty exciting month for us coming up.
