Screenwest is saddened to learn about the recent passing of Western Australian filmmaker, Christine (Chris) Pip.
Chris was an anthropologist, researcher, writer, archivist, documentary maker, TV assessor and programmer.
She was a joint director of Bardwell Media and Bardwell Partners, and held a wide range of positions during her media career, including with Film Australia, ABC, the Australian Film Commission, Showtime and the State Library of WA.
Chris taught documentary filmmaking at AFTRS and served as the writer and researcher on award-winning Australian documentary Body Work. Her groundbreaking 1990s report for Women in Film and TV (WIFT) was the first to quantify the employment status of women in the industry and recommend benchmarks for change.
“Chris was a great friend and colleague to many here in the WA screen industry, as well as nationally and internationally. With her multi-faceted achievements and wide range of experiences, Chris’s contribution to our sector was invaluable. We extend our condolences to Chris’s partner Harry Bardwell and her children Celeste and Tom.” said Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO.
