Updated Scripted Production and Footloose guidelines announced
Screenwest has updated its Scripted Production and Footloose guidelines based on industry feedback and the evolving needs of the local sector. Screenwest is inviting scripted practitioners to a Q&A webinar on 11 October, giving WA creatives the opportunity to learn about the revisions to the guidelines.
Screenwest has updated its Scripted Production and Footloose guidelines based on industry feedback and the evolving needs of the local sector.
Consultations began in 2023, asking industry to provide feedback on how Screenwest could update its Scripted and Footloose Production guidelines to:
- Support, attract and retain WA talent;
- Increase crew capacity; and
- Boost local production levels.
Thank you to everyone who participated.
These updated guidelines will apply to all future Scripted Production and Footloose funding rounds.
A summary of key changes is outlined below. For more details, refer to the full guidelines.
Scripted Production Fund
This fund provides grant finance to Western Australian Producers for feature films, telemovies and scripted series which will be made in Western Australia. Projects must have bonafide marketplace attachments from traditional and/or new distribution platforms with significant audience share.
Competitive application rounds will be advertised throughout the financial year.
Funding Available
- Total funding cap has increased from $600,000 up to $700,000 per application.
- Base funding cap has increased from $400,000 up to $500,000.
- Incentive funding cap remains the same at $200,000.
Funding Incentives
- Eligible Key WA HOD’s have been updated to address priority skills gap areas.
New Incentive:
- Diversity and Inclusion – up to $25,000 for:
- WA First Nations ATL Key Creative.
- WA ATL Key Creative who identifies as being culturally and linguistically diverse or identifies as living with a disability.
WA Producer Development Investment (NEW)
After receipt of scripted production funding and approval of the post-production drawdown milestone, Western Australian Resident Producer with projects that have exceeded $5 million in QWAE will be invited to apply out of round for:
- Project development investment funding:
- Funding available – up to $50,000 across a maximum of three Screenwest Development Investment Agreements. Funding will be provided in tranches of up to $25,000.
- Screenwest’s Scripted Project Development Fund guidelines and agreement terms will be used to assess and contract this funding.
- Development funding caps apply as per the Screenwest Terms of Trade.
- Travel funding:
- Funding available – up to $5,000 that will be provided in a single tranche.
- Travel funds are a contribution towards the cost of attending business meetings that fall outside of the current travel guidelines.
- Screenwest’s Travel Fund agreement terms will apply.
Western Australian Resident Producers with eligible projects that entered post-production in 2024 will be invited to apply for the WA Producer Development Investment.
Footloose Production Fund
This fund provides grant finance for high profile, market driven, local, national and international footloose, scripted feature films, telemovies and scripted series. Projects must:
- Undertake production in Western Australia.
- Showcase local stories, locations and/or culture to an international audience.
- Assist in the development of the Western Australian screen sector.
Competitive application rounds will be advertised throughout the financial year.
Funding Available
- There is no change to the funding caps available.
Funding Incentives
- Eligible Key WA HOD’s have been updated to address priority skills gap areas.
