Screenwest and Screen Australia are pleased to announce End to End from writer/director Tim Barretto and writer/producer Melanie Filler has been selected as the 2024 recipient of Screenwest’s highly coveted West Coast Visions initiative.
West Coast Visions is a special initiative designed by Screenwest to uncover, inspire and develop talented and motivated WA filmmakers with distinctive visions to produce their debut theatrically released feature film in Western Australia.
Screenwest provides successful recipients with production funding of $750,000 and since 2023, Screen Australia has pre-committed $500,000 in equity to the initiative.
Tim and Melanie will receive a total of $1,250,000 production funding as well as ongoing creative and strategic support from Screenwest and Screen Australia.
End to End follows a middle-aged couple who activate a long-held promise to hike Western Australia’s Bibbulmun Track – a last chance to determine the fate of their struggling marriage.
Through the gruelling 50-day journey, the couple grapple with entrenched ways of being, and relive moments they thought they had left behind.
An emotional and cathartic expedition spanning 1,000km of unique landscapes, the film will be produced in the South West of WA. David Noakes, who spent his formative filmmaking years in WA where he produced award-winning films including How the West Was Lost, Taking A Look, and Bigger than Texas, is on board as Executive Producer.
Hailing from both a scripted and documentary background, Tim and Melanie are the filmmaking team behind 2022 indie feature Bassendream, which was selected for festival screenings at SXSW Sydney and Revelation International Perth Film Festival.
“I feel privileged to have our vision backed by such amazing support and enthusiasm from our screen agencies. I can’t wait to see our vibrant characters transform from page to screen against the unique landscapes Western Australia has to offer.” said Tim Barretto, Writer/Director.
“We are thrilled with the opportunity to make this beautiful film with support from Screenwest and Screen Australia. This is an original and intimate story we are exploring with heart, humour and nuance. Tim is a one-of-a-kind Director with a unique perspective, and it’s a treasure having David and his expertise on board. I am delighted to embark on this journey together, set along the incredible Bibbulmun Track here in WA.” said Melanie Filler, Writer/Producer.
“Congratulations Tim and Mel! This was an incredibly competitive year for West Coast Visions, and we’re so pleased to be supporting their vision as they take the next step in their careers.
