About the course
Key to successful impact producing is understanding the role a social impact documentary has as a central tool in an impact campaign. The masterclass takes participants through the model that an impact producer works with in order to create impact, attract partners and engage audiences. By the end of the course participants will understand what key skills and materials are needed to successfully produce impact and how to develop effective social sector partnerships around a film project. Including:
- A 1-2 page case for support
- Mapping the issue area
- Identifying relevant key players and organisations working on the issue
- Creating an Impact Vision Statement
- What is a Theory of Change
- Strategic planning
- Fundraising plan
- Evaluation plan
The two-day masterclass and workshop will assist filmmakers to understand how the DAF impact model, in particular impact producing and philanthropic funding fits with the traditional screen industry model of finance and distribution, and how to build collaborative partnerships and impact strategies. Detailed case studies will be presented and analysed and templates for ongoing work will be provided.
The two-day masterclass includes teamwork activities that will help participants test and refine their project materials. Where possible, speakers will be invited to broaden creative thinking in how to contribute to social impact. Examples of discussions are:
- What is an impact producer (role and responsibilities)
- How impact campaigns work with examples of different models
- Strategic mapping sharing and feedback
- How to build an impact campaign
- Building perfectly aligned partnerships
By the end of the course participants will understand what key skills and materials are needed to successfully produce impact and how to develop effective social sector partnerships around a screen project.
