Over the past few weeks, our Development and Production team has been incredibly busy with nine funding rounds closing, including four professional attachment opportunities for emerging filmmakers on Screenwest projects. We’re in the middle of the assessment period, so please be patient if you’re waiting for a response from our funding team.
Across September we hosted successful workshops for WA filmmakers including a Professional In Residence Seminar with Joanne Donahoe-Beckwith and a Business of Film and Television Drama workshop with Sandy George. We note the appetite for these is only growing so watch this space for news of what’s coming next!
Now, I’m delighted to welcome Eva Di Blasio to the Screenwest family as our new Talent Development Manager. Eva adds a new layer of support to the WA industry and will be focusing intently on our talent development initiatives over the next few weeks.
THE ANTARCTICA EXPERIENCE enjoyed its world premiere at the WA Maritime Museum 31 August where it will continue to screen until 14 October. If you haven’t seen it, do yourself a favour and book now!
THE HEIGHTS wrapped production earlier this week after 79 days of filming at ABC’s East Perth studios with post-production to follow for several weeks/months. During the past 3-months, Screenwest has enjoyed watching the production unfold. There has been a tangible buzz in the air and the energy exuded by the cast, crew and creatives was infectious! We look forward to sharing more news regarding the show’s Series 1 TX date.
Production in the state is not slowing down by any means. RAMS began production in Mount Barker in WA’s Great Southern region earlier this week. The feature film is being produced by WBMC and stars Sam Neill and Michael Caton.
Looking ahead, Screenwest is proud to support DADAA’s The Other Film Festival which launches this Friday to be followed by a wonderful array of panels and film screenings over its weekend program.
BORN TO COOK Season 2 is premiering on SBS on Tuesday, 16 October and West Coast Visions film 1% has its Australian cinematic release on Thursday, 18 October. We also have a number of opportunities for emerging filmmakers coming up in the next few weeks, including an eight-week Concept to Story Development Lab run by our Scripted Executive Ross Grayson Bell and a special presentation and networking event with Screentime’s Colin Thrupp.
