Screenwest supports eight workshops for WA screen practitioners
Supported through the Industry Development – Workshops and Masterclasses Fund, the eight workshops will run throughout 2025 and kick off next month with The Feisty Producer's Toolkit Masterclass Series.
Screenwest is pleased to announce eight professional skills development workshops for Western Australian screen practitioners, supported through the Industry Development – Workshops and Masterclasses Fund.
The fund is made possible through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries’ workforce capacity support for the WA screen industry, announced by Culture and Arts Minister, Hon David Templeman in 2024.
The workshops will run throughout 2025, with the first workshop, The Feisty Producer’s Toolkit Masterclass Series kicking off in early March.
The eight workshops and facilitating organisations are:

The Feisty Producer’s Toolkit Masterclass Series
Designed for mid-career Western Australian producers, the masterclasses aim to provide participants with practical examples including:
- Producers’ roles and the ability to differentiate between different types of Producers.
- Business structures and key advisor relationships.
- Clarity around participant’s own “brand” and distinctive skillsets.
- Strengthening confidence when networking opportunities arise.
- Enhanced knowledge of industry terminology, key organisations and marketplace realities.
- Practical knowledge of finance plans, recoupment waterfalls, rights acquisition.
- Awareness of the value of research and preparation in relation to markets and industry events.
- Strengthened networks with guest speakers and industry colleagues.
The sessions will be led by WA producer Dr Tania Chambers OAM of Feisty Dame Productions (Invisible Boys, How To Please A Woman) and will include guest speakers who are active producers or marketplace partners.
Session details
Dates: The sessions will run over four Saturdays from 8 – 29 March 2025
Time: 9am – 12pm
Venue: The Backlot Perth, 21 Simpson Street, West Perth WA
Cost: $100 per participant
Regional-based practitioners will have the opportunity to attend remotely.
Places are limited to around 20 attendees to ensure optimal learning outcomes for all participants.

How to apply
To be eligible to take part in The Feisty Producer’s Toolkit Masterclasses, practitioners must commit to attending all four sessions and:
- Submit a CV/biography showing your experience as a mid-career producer. This is not an entry-level producing course. Ideally you have produced a feature film/series/online series/documentary or alternatively, multiple short films that have been screened in a number of festivals or shown on television. In exceptional circumstances, professionals from other industry sectors will be considered.
- At least three paragraphs about why you consider these Masterclasses to be of benefit to you.
