Screenwest with the State Library of WA Launches WA Reflections – Our History Rediscovered
Screenwest is excited to launch WA Reflections – Our History Rediscovered in collaboration with the State Library of Western Australia to reimagine stories, bringing them to life through film. Applications close Monday, 14 September at 5:00pm AWST.
Stories from the State Library of Western Australia Collection will come to life through a series of films to provide new opportunities for our community to see the depth and richness of the collection. Stories from Western Australia’s history, currently held within letters, diaries, journals and oral recordings will uncovered and explored through this exciting new initiative.
The State Library of Western Australia is contributing over $60,000 to the initiative, enabling emerging and mid-career WA factual filmmakers the opportunity to tell these stories from their creative perspective, responding to the range of the collection materials shortlisted by the State Library of Western Australia.
The collaboration and partnership on this project between the State Library of Western Australia and Screenwest is the first of its kind in WA, and celebrates the shared purpose of the two organisations to share WA culture and stories with the community and the world.
Screenwest CEO Willie Rowe is grateful to the State Library for their support. “This year has had incredible challenges for the world, it has changed plans and made us refocus our energies, particularly in storytelling and how we do that. The initiative will see WA factual filmmakers provided a new opportunity to connect with WA stories, transforming them to share with our community.”
State Library of Western Australia, State Librarian and CEO Margaret Allen said, “2020 has been a particularly hard year for creative artists. We hope that the stories that are uncovered in the State Library and State Archive’s collections will inspire film makers and bring new meaning and audiences to the diverse stories, experiences and voices of Western Australians.”
