Screenwest has partnered with Carers WA to create a new Diversity and Inclusion Manager position to support the WA screen industry to be more inclusive and support diverse Western Australian stories on screen. Applications are now open and close at 5pm AWST on Monday, 30 November 2020.
After the success of the Different Lens Diversity Initiative project, Carers WA and Screenwest have formed an ongoing strategic partnership, where Carers WA will financially assist Screenwest in employing a Diversity and Inclusion Manager for three days per week in 2021.
This role has been identified as an opportunity for an applicant with a demonstrated lived experience of disability.
The Diversity and Inclusion Manager will be responsible for the delivery of diversity related activities and initiatives to drive diversity, equity and inclusion for the benefit of the Western Australian screen industry and the wider community.
A key component of this role will be the development and delivery of a Disability Diverse Initiative, called Our Choice, Our Voice, Our Future in partnership with Carers WA. More details on the initiative will be announced after the Diversity and Inclusion Manager has been appointed in the new year.
“After a successful partnership with Carers WA to deliver Different Lens, we are very excited to be working with them again to be able to create this position. Not only will it support and encourage greater inclusivity within the screen industry itself but being a position for someone with an identified and lived experience of disability, it drives more diverse representation within Screenwest itself,” explained Wendy Simmons, Head of Operations Manager at Screenwest.
“A more inclusive, representative and culturally and socially diverse screen industry will lead to the development and growth of a diverse range of voices, stories and people represented. Achieving unity through embracing diversity is important, globally,” she added
Paul Rogers, Business Development and Services Manager of Carers WA said, “Following the successful conclusion of the Different Lens project, it’s fantastic for Carers WA to once again have the opportunity to work with Screenwest. To deliver meaningful change, raise awareness and assist in the creation of diverse voice within the screen industry, whilst partnering with community to deliver the Our Choice, Our Voice, Our Future initiative is incredibly exciting.”
He added, “An inclusive society where all voices are encouraged, heard and respected is crucial to creating a welcoming, fair and equitable future.”
Screenwest’s current and esteemed Diversity Manager, Simone Flavelle has decided to pursue other opportunities in 2021, but her contribution to the Western Australian Screen Industry and Screenwest has been significant and impactful.
“Simone is incredibly well respected within the industry, and her years of experience and knowledge have been invaluable to the team at Screenwest and the broader screen sector. She will be sincerely missed, and we wish her all the best with her future endeavours,” explained Willie Rowe, CEO of Screenwest.
Simone will conclude her employment with Screenwest at the end of 2020.
Applications for the Diversity and Inclusion Manager position at Screenwest close at 5pm AWST on Monday 30 November 2020.
