Screenwest lights up Yagan Square Digital Tower
Screenwest will officially take control of the Yagan Square Digital Tower and LED Canopies following Yagan Square’s Bunuru Welcome, a festival which kicks off 9:00am on Friday, 23 March in the city’s newest public space.
On 18 February 2018, Planning Minister, Hon Rita Saffioti MLA announced Screenwest was successful in the tender to curate, program and operate the Yagan Square Digital Tower and LED Canopies.
The team at Screenwest are drawing upon the extensive library of content created through funding support to productions and partnerships with filmmakers. By also reaching out to content creators across Western Australia including community groups, indigenous artists, arts organisations, local artists, schools and universities, and production companies, content which caters to the unique specifications of the screen will be broadcast.
Screenwest Chair, Janelle Marr said, “Our partnership with the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority (MRA) for Yagan Square is the first major partnership since our recent transition out of Government into an independent not-for-profit organisation. We are thrilled to be programming this state-of-the-art digital canvas, which is exceptional when compared to existing screens around Australia.”
Bunuru Welcome runs from Friday, 23 March to Sunday, 25 March. The festival’s name is derived from one of the six Noongar seasons, known as the ‘Season of Adolescence’, which occurs from February to March in the hottest part of the year.
The festival is family friendly with Aboriginal storytelling, face painting, kids’ circus skills workshops, live music, an aerial trapeze show, mouth-watering food and more.
Screenwest looks forward to collaborating with the WA community to connect locally produced content with the City of Perth audience, including our upcoming project with West Australian Music (WAM) as well as screening content from Art Galley WA, WA Museum, TAFE, Curtin, CAN (Community Arts Network) and more.
