Screenwest has boosted the State’s ‘film friendliness’ by launching a range of resources and a training program to assist regional development commissions; local governments, tourism associations, chambers of commerce, stakeholders and partners that will smooth the path for incoming film-makers.
Screenwest CEO Willie Rowe said the initiative would help communities attract new productions and film friendly is not just a state of mind but a way of doing business.
“Our Film Friendly brand is rooted in providing usable information to boost the effectiveness of local communities in attracting a production by giving them skills to effectively deal with on-location filming and help them market their services and resources,” Mr Rowe said.
“A place’s film friendly reputation is vital, and we have developed a range of resources to help communities recognise what sets them apart and how they can use that to attract a production.”
The Film Friendly initiative is the result of years of industry, community and stakeholder consultation and a heavy commitment by Screenwest to make WA the most desirable destination in Australia for creating screen content.
“Our Film Friendly program will not only encourage more productions to our State but also assist communities to grow their reputation as a great place to do business,” said Screenwest’s Production Attraction Coordinator Gabrielle Cole.
“A large part of my role is to liaise with industry and stakeholders and assist all parties with advice on our film friendly philosophies.
“These resources were developed to assist both filmmakers and communities achieve a positive experience through a consistent and transparent framework that balances filming request with the needs of the local area.”
Screenwest will continue to work with interested communities to share information, resources and encourage them to become Film Friendly accredited with its first training workshop scheduled for May 2019.
