DIFFERENT LENS’ Diversity Initiative
Screenwest, in partnership with Carers WA, is excited to launch the DIFFERENT LENS’ Diversity Initiative.
The successful recipient will receive up to a total of $50,000 to produce a series of 12 disability-focused shorts and provide mentoring to four, paid diverse screen practitioners with a disability.
Applications close Monday, 17 February 2020 at 5:00pm AWST.
About DIFFERENT LENS’
Screenwest has secured funding from Carers WA for a one-off opportunity for a Western Australian Producer or Production Company to work with emerging diverse storytellers and practitioners with a disability.
This initiative will provide opportunity for Western Australian screen practitioners with disability. It will also build capacity the local and professional industry to work with diverse screen practitioners.
The aims of the initiative are to:
- Offer screen skills development opportunities for Western Australian disability diverse screen practitioners
- produce local disability-led content
- build capacity of local screen sector to include practitioners with disability, and
- promote visibility of onscreen talent with disability.
The successful producer or company will receive up to a total of $50,000 to produce a series of twelve, disability-focused, 1 – 2 minute short projects.
They will also provide mentoring to four, paid diverse screen practitioners with disability: a Writer, Director of Photography, Sound Recordist and Editor.
These screen practitioners will be selected and identified by Screenwest and Carers WA, through a separate Expression of Interest process, in consultation with the selected producer/production company.

All program guidelines are to be read in conjunction with the Screenwest Terms of Trade.
An application receipt will be forwarded to the applicant within two working days to confirm that Screenwest has received the application. It is the applicant’s responsibility to contact Screenwest if an application receipt has not been received within this timeframe.
