Rose Riley, George Mason and Hayley McElhinney announced as cast of PROCLIVITAS as production kicks off in Western Australia
Written and directed by Miley Tunnecliffe and produced by Kate Separovich, the supernatural horror feature was the 2023 recipient of Screenwest's West Coast Visions initiative.
Screenwest and Screen Australia are pleased to announce Rose Riley, George Mason and Hayley McElhinney are starring in Miley Tunnecliffe and Kate Separovich’s debut feature PROCLIVITAS, which kicked off production in Perth, Western Australia this week.
PROCLIVITAS is a supernatural horror that sees a troubled doctor rekindle a romance with her teenage sweetheart, awakening painful memories of the past and a terrifying demon determined to possess her.
Fremantle-born and raised, WAAPA-trained actress Rose Riley (Stateless, Mr Inbetween, Mystery Road) and New Zealand actor George Mason (Power of the Dog, Exposure, Last Days of the Space Age) are playing the lead roles of Clare and Jerry alongside WA actress Hayley McElhinney (Mystery Road: Origin, How To Please A Woman, The Babadook) as Jerry’s sister, Tara.
The film is written and directed by Miley Tunnecliffe (Calling, Molly and Cara, 100% Wolf) and produced by Kate Separovich (Girt By Sea, Evie, Dirt Music) alongside an entirely Western Australian female key creative team including DOP Meredith Lindsay, Production Designer Courtney Mulvay, Costume Designer Texx Montana, Hair and Make Up Designer Kate Anderson and Monster Designer, Kiana Jones.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with such incredible talent in front of, and behind the camera. It’s such a pleasure to be able to make this film in my hometown with the support of Screenwest and Screen Australia and I can’t wait to share it with the world.” said Miley Tunnecliffe, Writer/Director.
“I’m delighted to be at the helm of Miley Tunnecliffe’s debut feature. Producing is such a wild ride but I’ve assembled a team that is going to scare the bejesus out of people. There’s nowhere I’d rather be making films than here in WA – the benefit of being a Western Australia-based producer and having the incredible support of Screenwest, as well as Screen Australia and our distributor ICON puts my business in a great position to grow into the future.” said Kate Separovich, Producer.
“Screenwest has been following and supporting Kate and Miley’s careers for over 10 years and we are so pleased to see them kick off production on their debut feature film. It’s so great to see two WA actresses, Rose and Hayley take on starring roles alongside an entirely WA crew. Congrats team!” said Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO.
PROCLIVITAS was the 2023 recipient of Screenwest’s highly coveted West Coast Visions initiative, which is designed to uncover, inspire and develop talented and motivated WA filmmakers with distinctive visions to produce their debut feature film in WA. Through this initiative, PROCLIVITAS secured $750,000 production funding from Screenwest and $500,000 in equity from Screen Australia, as well as ongoing strategic and creative support.
2024 recipient End to End from writer/director Tim Barretto and writer/producer Melanie Filler was announced earlier this week and is set to head into production in 2025.
Some of the notable career outcomes of the initiative include Jub Clerc’s Sweet As winning top festival awards at MIFF, Toronto and Berlin and Zak Hilditch’s These Final Hours being selected for the 2014 Cannes Film Festival Directors’ Fortnight where he secured US representation and went on to write and direct 1922 and Rattlesnake for Netflix.
Ben Young premiered Hounds of Love at Venice Film Festival 2016 where he won the Fedora Award and secured US representation. He has since been hand-picked to direct feature films and TV series including Extinction, Devil’s Peak, Clickbait and The Wilds, and following the release of audience favourite How To Please A Woman, Renée Webster was selected to direct Season 2 of Aftertaste for the ABC and Closer Productions.
2021 recipients David Vincent Smith and Jess Parker premiered their film, He Ain’t Heavy at the 2024 Sydney Film Festival and 2022 recipients Zoe Pepper and Cody Greenwood are currently in post-production on their film, Birthright.
PROCLIVITAS is scheduled to wrap filming in Western Australia in September.
