The construction of Perth Film Studios in Malaga continues to progress well. The opening date remains early 2026.
The four sound stages, annexes and workshops are taking shape and are visible from surrounding roads. The landscaping and public art design has been finalised and will take form once the major buildings and site works are completed.
Perth Film Studios’ James Grandison joined Screenwest’s Head of Production, Chris Veerhuis in Los Angeles attending Fall Ausfilm Week. The duo presented the Perth Film Studios’ promotional prospectus and promoted the Western Australian Production Attraction Incentives as an enticing package to film in Western Australia.
“Our purpose built stages, annexes and backlot were of great interest to our primary targets…all of which we manage to see in what was a a whirlwind week. Paramount, Amazon, Netflix, Lionsgate, Disney, A24 to drop just a few names we saw. Many were excited to learn that Perth has more than 100,000 people! The meetings also allowed us the opportunity to softly unveil the Perth Film Studios logo…a clever incorporation of “frames” that use the aspect ratios of film. The classic Hollywood 4:3 ‘Academy’ and the wide ‘Cinemascope’ frames represent “windows of possibility” for storytelling and showcasing WA’s extraordinary light, sky, and space” said James Grandison, Perth Film Studios.
“It’s fantastic to see the Perth Film Studios build progressing. We look forward to working with the Perth Film Studios team to help secure opportunities for the sector.” said Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO.
A global recruitment campaign is in progress for the Studios’ CEO role with other key positions to be advertised early next year.
Perth Film Studios’ website and other digital platforms are being developed and will be rolled out over the coming months.
