OUTBACK OPAL HUNTERS is Back in its Biggest Season Yet!
New teams, new locations and new challenges, the toughest mining series on TV returns for its third and biggest season!
Produced in Western Australia by Prospero Productions, OUTBACK OPAL HUNTERS Season 3 makes its world premiere on Thursday, 17 October 2018 at 5:30pm AWST on Discovery Australia.
Mining a rich seam of real-life drama, OUTBACK OPAL HUNTERS is loaded with real life drama, big characters, high stakes and a gem worth 500 times more than gold! Following a successful two seasons, Discovery Australia and UK have commissioned another 20 episodes of the series from Prospero Productions, with Season 3 launching in Australia, Thursday 17 October 2019 on Discovery Channel.
In one stunning find, new team, the Tunnel Rats from Mintabie in South Australia, find a whopping $100,000!
“This find is just one in a multitude of new and exciting adventures in this season,” said co-Managing Director and Executive Producer, Julia Redwood. “It’s authentic content, real characters, real life situations that the audience can relate to, especially in these times where so much in the media feels fake.”
OUTBACK OPAL HUNTERS is one of Discovery Australia’s most successful local productions. To date, Season 2 is a Top 4 Factual program on Foxtel in 2019 and the #4 program on Quest in the UK – one of Discovery’s free-to-air channels.
“OUTBACK OPAL HUNTERS has been a great success for Discovery and we’re proud to be able to continue to invest in Australian productions,” said Darren Chau, Director of Content & Channels, Factual, Discovery Australia, New Zealand & Pacific Islands. “Season 3 is set to be massive as we expand filming to new locations and bring some new characters into the mix and we can’t wait to take Discovery viewers on the treasure hunt!”
Early in 2020, OUTBACK OPAL HUNTERS will also be airing internationally in over 100 countries with a potential audience of over 140 million.
Series three follows nine teams across four states on their daily battle chasing the dream of striking it rich. Many live off the grid like new team, the Bushmen, Rod Manning and Les Walsh on the Sheep yards opal field in NSW. For 12 months these Aussie battlers have found noting and the cupboard is literally bare. To survive they resort to hunting feral goats.
The Young Guns, are three young rookies from the Central Coast, living the dream in White Cliffs NSW.
But the dream quickly turns into a nightmare with bust ups and near-death experiences.
The Fire Crew from Perth in WA are on the hunt for the most expensive opal on the planet – Black Opal worth $43,000 a gram. If their hunch is right, they will be the first people to ever find Black Opal in Western Australia.
OUTBACK OPAL HUNTERS Season 3 airs Thursdays from 17 October 2019 at 5:30pm AWST on Discovery Channel.
