‘Outback Crystals Hunters’ now screening on 7mate
A new generation of fearless Australian treasure hunters are on a quest to unearth some of the world’s rarest and ancient crystals in Prospero Productions' new WA documentary series.
Screenwest are pleased to announce Outback Crystal Hunters, an eight-part series produced in Western Australia, is now screening on 7mate following its Australian broadcast premiere earlier this week.
In the hostile Australian Outback, five courageous crystal hunting teams confront extreme conditions, from scorching deserts to frigid underground mines, in a bid to unearth some of the world’s rarest and breathtaking crystals.
Fuelled by celebrity endorsements and a four-trillion-dollar-a-year global wellness industry, the crystal trade is booming, and Australia has some of the most ancient & richest deposits on earth.
Outback Crystal Hunters are on a quest to uncover these geological marvels – from giant million-dollar Amethyst clusters to magical, colour-changing Zircons. All these impassioned crystal hunters are driven to unearth and showcase these ancient wonders to the world while hungry to secure a life-changing payday.
The series is narrated by Tristan Gorey (Mystery Road: Origin, Itch), directed by Casey Grogan (Aussie Gold Hunters, New Leash on Life) and produced by Mike Hoath (Outback Opal Hunters, Red Dirt Road Trip) together with Executive Producer/Series Producer Robin Shingleton and Executive Producers Julia Redwood and Jules Fortune.
Prospero Productions are currently celebrating a significant milestone, with an unprecedented five documentary series airing in Australia between August and October 2024. Outback Crystal Hunters joins Junior Doctors Down Under (SBS), Outback Opal Hunters Season 7 (Discovery), Outback Truckers Season 10 (7Mate) and Opal Hunters: Red Dirt Road Trip (Discovery).
The Fremantle-based company also premiered their new eight-part series West Coast Cops at CinefestOZ last month, set to premiere on Nine Network.
“Making this series has been truly eye-opening! The crystal hunters we follow uncover some amazing finds, including one in the Pilbara where they discover Australia’s biggest amethyst cluster. The stunning nature of the crystals coupled with incredible Outback locations has already blown overseas viewers away and we’re excited that Australian audiences now get the chance to see it.” said Julia Redwood, Executive Producer – Prospero Productions.
“Prospero’s achievements this year have been remarkable, with the team delivering another endlessly watchable returnable documentary series. We look forward to seeing Outback Crystal Hunters’ iconic Australian settings and cast of passionate crystal hunters entertain audiences both at home on 7mate and overseas via Discovery.” said Melissa Hayward, Screenwest Documentary Executive.
Outback Crystal Hunters is screening weekly at 8:30pm on 7mate, with episodes available to stream on 7plus.
Production credit: Outback Crystal Hunters is produced by Prospero Productions for Channel 7 and Warner Bros. Discovery with principal production funding from Screenwest and Lotterywest. International sales are being handled by Abacus Media.
