North Metropolitan TAFE’s Lawry Hill retires from WA screen industry
A highly respected educator and mentor within the WA screen industry, Lawry served as Director of Media at WA's North Metropolitan TAFE for more than 20 years.
Director of Media at Western Australia’s North Metropolitan TAFE, Lawry Hill, has retired after more than 20 years in the role.
A highly respected educator and mentor within the WA screen industry, Lawry was the driving force at North Metropolitan TAFE in providing industry relevant training programs in the areas of Contemporary Music, Photography, Film, Television, Radio, Animation, Information Technology and Virtual Reality to thousands of students.
Lawry maintained a strong connection to the local sector throughout his tenure, fostering relationships with key industry players, contributing to numerous industry strategies and ensuring his screen and media students receive hands-on training.
“Our education sector plays an incredibly significant role in developing Western Australian screen creatives and crew – a huge thank you to Lawry for his immense skills development work within our industry. We wish him the very best for his retirement!” said Rikki Lea Bestall, Screenwest CEO.
Lawry worked in a variety of production and sales roles for broadcast television throughout the 1980s and subsequently co-established a video production company. He joined North Metropolitan TAFE in 1996 as a lecturer in film & video.
North Metropolitan TAFE is an instrumental part of WA’s screen tertiary educational sector. TAFE alumni includes writer/director David Vincent Smith (He Ain’t Heavy), director Simon McQuoid (Mortal Kombat) and cinematographer Denson Baker ACS NZCS (The Luminaries).
