A new film festival is happening in Newman this September to celebrate the culture and diversity of the Pilbara.
The Newman Squared Short Film Festival will screen at Newman Town Square as part of the Pilbara Creative and Cultural Forum on Friday, 21 September and Saturday, 22 September 2018.
The Festival showcases films by Pilbara filmmakers that highlight the cultural richness, diversity, vibrancy, and value of the region.
Newman Squared is organised by FORM, an independent, non-profit cultural organisation that develops and advocates for excellence in creativity and artistic practice in Western Australian communities.
FORM Executive Director Lynda Dorrington said that the festival would feature a fusion of documentary and fictional content.
“FORM is excited to bring Newman Squared to the Pilbara. This project highlights what FORM aspires to more broadly, to tell relevant, inspiring stories about people’s connection to place,” Lynda said.
Festival supporter Screenwest is excited to be involved.
“Newman Squared shines a light on the Pilbara’s people and stories, including a new short film YULBIDYI – UNTIL THE END by the talented Curtis Taylor,” said Screenwest CEO Seph McKenna.
“It’s exciting to be a part of this great community event where Indigenous traditional knowledge has been sourced to unite and celebrate local stories and storytelling,” Seph said.
