‘Nekograms’ drops on iOS and Android today
The adorable mobile puzzle game about helping cats get to sleep was developed by WA interactive design studio, Hungry Sky, with support from Screenwest's 2019 Interactive Pilot Fund.
Screenwest is pleased to announce that Nekograms, a mobile puzzle game developed by Western Australian interactive design studio Hungry Sky, is launching today on iOS and Android.
The adorable and addictive game tasks its user with helping cats get to sleep. It features easy-to-learn but hard-to-master gameplay paired with charming visuals and an original soundtrack of soothing music. Nekograms has 120 fun and challenging levels which increase in difficulty.
The game, named for ‘neko’, the Japanese word for cat and ‘nonograms’, meaning picture logic puzzles, was first shown at the Perth Games Festival in 2015. It was further developed for presentation at the Internet Cat Video Festival in 2016 and again at gaming festival PAX Aus 2019 in Melbourne, where it picked up impressive reviews from the games industry.
Nekograms is directed by Nick Lowe, with art direction by Lauren Fletcher and audio direction by Ben Hammersley. Minh Tran serves as Executive Producer. Together, the team make up Hungry Sky, a prolific, multi-award winning interactive design studio based in Perth, Western Australia. Operating since 2011, their creations include interactive projections, multi-player AR and immersive VR games. Hungry Sky recently produced projection mapping and interactive exhibits for the WA Museum Boola Bardip and have collaborated with the Art Gallery of WA, the BitSummit Festival and the Australian Museum. Nekograms is the company’s first self-published mobile game.
Nekograms was one of five projects supported by Screenwest through its 2019 Interactive Pilot Fund initiative, which was launched with the intention of growing and stimulating Western Australia’s small but vibrant interactive, Virtual Reality (VR) and video game sectors.
“We’re incredibly proud to have created a game that combines our love of logic puzzles with our love of cats. The global appeal of Nekograms has been apparent in the incredibly positive and personal responses that we have received from fans and media, and we look forward to bringing Nekograms titles to more markets and platforms in future.” said Nick Lowe, Director.
“A big congrats to the Hungry Sky team on the release of Nekograms! The games sector is such an exciting storytelling space and Screenwest is thrilled to support this project.” said Rikki Lee Bestall, Screenwest CEO.
Nekograms has launched in select English-speaking regions on iOS and Android, with additional regions to be added in 2022. The game is available now through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
