The past few weeks have been dominated by news of Chinese productions coming to town from Viva La Romance filming on the Rockingham foreshore to Legend Media signing its head agreement to Meng Fei’s planned visit, there’s been no shortage of interest in WA as a premier location!
Screenwest continues to leverage this interest wherever possible to build profile and encourage more productions but we do view the additional interest as complementary to local activities and not competition.
I also had the pleasure of visiting the set of I MET A GIRL on the South Perth Foreshore. Thanks to Producers Adam Dolman and Melissa Kelly for showing us around!
In other exciting news I’m delighted to unveil our podcast In Conversation with Screenwest which offers an additional resource to our practitioners stationed around the State. The conversation-style podcasts are a great way for us to extend access to specialist practitioners visiting WA as well as share local insights and ideas from across the sector to our audience.
This week the 2019 Logie Awards opened polling for its ‘most-popular’ nominations with the Screenwest-funded and ABC-broadcast MYSTERY ROAD – THE SERIES and THE HEIGHTS both in the running for Best Drama along with a number of the shows’ actors. Polling closes end of March so be sure to cast a vote to ensure these excellent productions move into contention for a statuette later this year.
