Maggie Beer’s Big Mission premieres on ABC and iview
Australian food icon, Maggie Beer, leads an ambitious world-first social experiment to transform the meals and dining experience at an aged care home in Artemis Media's new three-part documentary series.
Artemis Media, ABC, Screen Australia and Screenwest are pleased to announce Maggie Beer’s Big Mission, an inspirational three-part series produced in Western Australia, is now screening on ABC iview following its broadcast premiere last night.
Spurred by the shocking findings revealed from the recent Aged Care Royal Commission which exposed high rates of malnutrition in older adults living in aged care, respected Australian food icon, Maggie Beer AO, leads an ambitious world first social experiment to transform the meals and dining experience at an aged care home in Perth, Western Australia.
Over four months Maggie and her team of experts reinvigorate the menu, dining rooms, gardens and the care model to bring more joy, improve nutrition and well-being, and give purpose to the residents. The aim is to increase the overall quality of life at the home for both the residents and the staff.
Having established The Maggie Beer Foundation a decade ago, with a mission to set new standards and to change the food and dining experience in the aged care sector, Maggie’s mantra is “Make every mouthful count”.
“We are thrilled to have Maggie Beer spearhead such an important national conversation that effects all Australians. This series will surprise and delight ABC audiences, while bringing about real-world change.” said Susie Jones, ABC Head of Factual.
“Supporting documentary that can lead to benefits in our communities is important to Screen Australia. I can’t think of anyone with more experience, passion, drive and vision than Maggie Beer and Artemis Media to lead the charge for change in our aged care homes and I congratulate them on the ambition this series hopes to serve up.” said Richard Huddleston, Screen Australia Head of Documentary.
The Artemis Media creative team includes Series Director and Producer Laki Baker, alongside Senior Producer Phillipa Hutchison, and Executive Producer Celia Tait. The premiere of Maggie Beer’s Big Mission caps off an incredible twelve months for Artemis, following the release of WA documentary series Ningaloo Nyinggulu, New Leash on Life, Every Family Has a Secret Season 4 and Australia’s Sleep Revolution with Dr Michael Mosley.
Maggie Beer’s Big Mission marks the second time Artemis Media has collaborated with Maggie, with her ancestry traced in a 2009 episode of Who Do You Think You Are.
“This has been an exciting collaboration with trailblazing Maggie Beer, our visionary consultants, and the wonderful staff, residents and their families at the Dr Surveyor Centre, Meath Care. It’s been a privilege – and we hope that the series will inspire and initiate waves of change.” said Celia Tait, Executive Producer at Artemis Media.
“We’re tremendously proud to support Artemis Media’s eye-opening new series, with the legendary Maggie Beer compelling us all to ask important questions about the health and wellbeing of our senior citizens living in aged care. Maggie Beer’s Big Mission has the potential to impart significant social change, starting right here in WA, and we look forward to seeing it inspire ABC audiences nationwide.” said Melissa Hayward, Screenwest Documentary Executive.
Maggie Beer’s Big Mission screens Tuesdays at 8:30pm on ABC TV, with all episodes now available to stream on ABC iview.
