Imagine Impact Expands to Australia
Screenwest is excited to support the US development initiative Imagine Impact’s expansion to Australia. Applications will open Tuesday, 3 March 2020 to Australian writers, with an eight-week mentorship program to commence Monday, 8 June 2020.
Imagine Impact is a US development system originally created by international screen industry heavyweights Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Tyler Mitchell, which will launch in Melbourne in association with Gentle Giant Media Group and Screen Australia with the support of state funding agencies including principal partner Film Victoria and WA’s Screenwest. This is the first time the accelerator program for creative storytellers will run outside of the USA.
The program will be based in Melbourne and, similar to the US initiative, will seek fresh story perspectives and assist writers to create their best stories through a special mentorship program. ‘Creators’ will be partnered with a ‘Shaper’ (world-class screen and TV writer) to craft their story and a pitch with the final goal of selling their project.
Impact Australia will provide interstate practitioners with financial support to allow them to relocate to Melbourne and focus on their project for the eight-week intensive program.
Screenwest CEO, Willie Rowe stated, “Screenwest is excited to support such a wonderful opportunity for writers to develop their craft with some of the best mentors from around the world. Imagine Impact provides a clear pathway from the emergence of an idea to pitching a project for sale and we encourage Western Australian writers to apply!”
Principal finance for Impact Australia is courtesy of Screen Australia, along with principal partner Film Victoria. The program is also being supported by Screen NSW, Screen Queensland, Screenwest, South Australian Film Corporation, Screen Territory, Screen Canberra and Screen Tasmania.
